Notes from an American-Irish writer living in Italy
American-Irish writer and historian Mary Jane Cryan has been living in Italy since 1965 with a four year hiatus in Moscow during the perestroika where she was on the staff of Moscow Magazine.
An educator and administrator at international schools in Rome, Genova and Moscow, she also set up and taught for numerous university study abroad programs, tour operators and adult learners.
Her byline appears in scholarly journals, guidebooks print and online magazines.
From her historic home near Rome and Civitavecchia she publishes history and travel books in English, Italian and bilingual editions.

Her free on-line magazine The Painted Palazzo published twice a month on Substack.com is full of interesting articles and her award winning website has been an important resource for tourists, students and cruisers for the past 25 years.
Since 2008 Mary Jane has been traveling and lecturing aboard luxury cruise ships plying the Mediterranean, Adriatic and Black Seas.
